Individual income tax, every income type.
Salary, business, investment, foreign and capital income assembled into one correct return — with the offsets, levies and thresholds applied the way they should be.
How is individual income tax calculated in Australia?
All assessable income is added together — salary, business profit, interest, dividends (grossed up for franking credits), rent, capital gains after discount, and foreign income — then deductions are subtracted to give taxable income. Tax is calculated on the progressive resident rates, plus the 2% Medicare levy and any Medicare levy surcharge, then reduced by offsets and credits including franking credits, PAYG withheld and foreign income tax offsets. HELP and student loan repayments are calculated separately on repayment income.

Why us
What you get working with us.
Income assembly done properly
Distributions from trusts and managed funds, franked dividends, foreign pensions, capital gains — each with its own reporting quirks that prefill often gets wrong.
Offsets not left behind
Franking credits, foreign income tax offsets, private health rebate tier, low income and seniors offsets, and the invalid carer offset where it applies.
Surcharge modelled
The Medicare levy surcharge is a cliff, not a curve — we show whether hospital cover would have cost less than the surcharge for your income.
Residency handled
Part-year residents, working holiday makers, returning expats and foreign-income cases treated on the correct basis.

FAQ
Questions we're asked most.
What are the current individual tax rates?
Residents pay progressive rates with a tax-free threshold of $18,200, plus a 2% Medicare levy. Rates and thresholds are legislated and change from time to time, so rather than quoting a table that may date, we calculate your position on the rates applying to your income year and show you the marginal rate that matters for your decisions.
Do I have to declare foreign income?
If you're an Australian tax resident, yes — worldwide income is assessable, including foreign salary, rent, pensions and investment income. Foreign tax paid usually generates a foreign income tax offset, and tax treaties may alter the treatment. Australia also exchanges financial account information with over 100 jurisdictions, so undeclared foreign accounts are routinely identified.
What is the Medicare levy surcharge and how do I avoid it?
It's an additional 1% to 1.5% of income for higher earners without an appropriate level of private hospital cover, applied on a tiered scale. Because it's income-tested, it can cost more than a basic hospital policy would have. We calculate both figures so the decision is arithmetic rather than opinion — but note it's assessed on the days you were uncovered, so it's a decision to make prospectively.
Are franking credits refundable?
Yes, for individuals and complying super funds. Franked dividends are grossed up in your income and the attached credit is applied against your tax — and if it exceeds your liability, the excess is refunded. This is why retirees on low taxable incomes often receive refunds larger than any tax withheld.
I moved to Australia part-way through the year. What changes?
You're generally taxed as a resident only for the part of the year you were a resident, with a pro-rated tax-free threshold, and non-resident rates for the balance. Residency turns on your circumstances rather than your visa label, and getting it wrong in either direction is costly — it's worth a proper conversation in your first year.
